From the Earth to the Moon

Welcome back to the 2023 Winter Solstice Countdown.

We’ve quietly chipped away at our number, now fast approaching T minus 10.

Closer by the day, my friends. (-:

As for today’s honored guest, may I present the number 12.

It seems that the ancients put a lot of stock in our star of the day; and they did so literally, recognizing 12 as the number associated with the heavens, time, and a few other interesting odds and ends

Yeah, take a look:

  1. The 12 stations of the moon
  2. The 12 stations of the sun
  3. The 12 main northern stars
  4. The 12 main southern stars
  5. The 12 signs of the zodiac
  6. The 12 gates of Heaven
  7. The 12 angels of Heaven
  8. The 12 major Gods of Olympus (worshiped by the Ancient Greeks)
  9. The base 12 number system (used by the Ancient Egyptians)
  10. The 12 Caesars (a set of 12 biographies of Julius Caesar, used by The Romans)
  11. The 12 months of the year
  12.  The 12 things in a group, a dodecad

Thanks for joining me for our homage to 12.

Tune in tomorrow, gang. Looking forward to seeing you back here.
