Channeling John Sebastian!

Hey, gang! It’s great to be back with you! Counting on all of you to help drag me along to the finish line. And as always, we’ll do it together.

So, like the former leader of The Lovin’ Spoonful said long after he went solo. “Welcome back!” (For those of you who are old enough to remember the 1970s hit sitcom “Welcome Back, Kotter,” J. Sebastian wrote the show’s theme song all the way back in 1975. And it became so popular, it was eventually released as a single the following year, climbing all the way to No. 1 in May 1976.)

But I digress. (Yeah, I guess I do that a lot, huh?) Anyway, as for all you first time readers, it’s my sincere honor to have you with us. In fact, in the words of The Artful Dodger of Oliver fame, just consider yourself part of the furniture!

The journey to more daylight, warmer temperatures and the eventual arrival of Spring 2026 is what we all aspire to. So, if you’re looking for a place where “the more the merrier” applies, you can stop looking. You’re here. (-:

I’d like to try something a little different this year, and I hope you guys are up for it. Sure, we’ll do our regular countdown, our 30 days of soup-to-nuts topics that hopefully helped you all trudge through those darker days, going all the way back to the early days of Covid.

And now, some half-dozen years after we started, I thought it might be fun to look back on some of the places we’ve been.

You’ll just need to follow along the trail of hyperlinks if you’re so inclined. (Easy stuff, I promise, and again, only if you want to.)

So, as we head towards the future, we’ll make a few pit stops in the past. It’s a wrinkle I’ve been thinking about for a while, and I hope you guys will help me make it work.

Lastly, I’d like to introduce you to the late, great Raymond M. Karl. This year’s march towards daylight is dedicated to Ray.

Lots more on him later.

Day 30, my friends. Let the countdown begin.
