Hello out there, all ye sons and daughters of the solstice. (Yeah, I guess we must be getting closer because I’m starting to run out of greetings and salutations!)
The fact remains, though, that a week from today, we will be headed back in the right direction. Sure, there are far more important things happening out there, but nonetheless, I’m glad we get to do this together. ![]()
And speaking of together, telling someone “I’ve got your back” counts for a lot. Yeah, it’s simple, and maybe some would even call it “cliche,” but somehow there’s a reassurance associated with it that we shouldn’t overlook.
The origins of that affirmation likely come from “I’ve got your six,” going all the way back to the early days of military aviation, using clock positions to identify impending danger.
If you look at the face of a clock, think of 12 o’clock as directly in front of you and 6 o’clock being directly behind you. This is the way pilots would guard against blind spots and imminent threats, providing general support in perilous situations.
Today, it’s used more broadly to show loyalty and accountability. Pretty important to all of us, I think.
So, bottom line, I’ve got your six. And not just for the next six days.
Catch you all tomorrow.
