I’ll Go Halfsies with ‘Ya

Welcome to the official half-way point, people!

We got here, and together, we’ll make it the rest of the way!! (OK, that’s our official Knute Rockne moment of the day. (-????)

“Halfway” and halves of things – anything, really – can seem a little hollow at times, but maybe that’s all the more reason to keep going.

I mean it worked for David Cassidy, right? (Yeah, old David C. may well have been referenced on former threads from past countdowns, but one of his tunes from the old days does seem especially relevant to today.)

“I’ll meet you halfway…That’s better than no way.” Hey, if it works in a love song, we can make it work, too, right? (Not to mention that the late Mr. Cassidy did sell more than 30 million records worldwide.)

So, how about a few famous halves for us to ponder, as we continue to charge towards our goal.

In no particular order:

  1. Half-caf coffee
  2. Halfbacks of the gridiron
  3. Halfway home
  4. Half & Half soft drinks (from tea/lemonade to grapefruit & lemon soda)
  5. Half marathon(s) (with a big shoutout to those who have conquered the distance and to those who will do so in the future)
  6. Half in the bag (And to add to that, give a listen to John Valby’s song of the same title.)
  7. Half a sandwich
  8. Halftime
  9. Half good/half bad (Depends on the day, but sometimes Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde moments can be hard to avoid.)
  10. Half-life of a rock (A little complicated for my less-than-scientific brain, but try thinking of it as the time it takes for 50% of the rock’s radioactive atoms to decay.)
  11. Half a mind (You ever think about it when people say that? “I’ve got half a mind to tell him/her what I really think.” Yeah, like you might like to do something, but you might also just be too chickenshit to do it!)
  12. Half-assed
  13. Half-hearted (That’s surely different than half-assed, but giving your whole heart can certainly get complicated.)
  14. Half scared to death (Not quite the level of anxiety produced by an exclamation like “You scared the shit out of me,” but certainly enough to shake you up a bit.)
  15. Half Moon (I’ll be willing to bet that half the towns in the U.S. have a “Half Moon” bar, pub or some other type of eatery.)

Let’s all chew on those a while and get ready for Day 14 and our prelude to the weekend.

Keep it together, my friends.

PS I hate to compromise the good vibes from such a hopeful post, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the importance of 7 December in our history. For most of us, 82 years is several forevers ago, but the events of that day will never be forgotten. Please join me in honoring those who never got to enjoy so many of the things we take for granted.
