Greetings, all you sun-seeking stalwarts. Approaching just one week left to go, and I’m already dreaming of eating an evening meal that isn’t served under the cover of darkness!
As for today’s countdown, I thought we’d head for the links. (And please allow me to preface by saying, when you look in the dictionary – yes, when those things still existed – under “hack,” don’t be surprised to see my picture!)
Yeah, I’d like to be good at the game, but except for a few lucky, long drives on occasion, I really shouldn’t even be allowed out there.
Now before you think I’m simply flaunting my exceptional self-depreciatory skills, just ask a good buddy of mine about a long-ago shot I made from an elevated tee that overlooked water.
In what might commonly be known as a “duck hook,” I smashed an errant tee shot, almost laterally, nearly picking off the occupants of a small Sunfish sail boat that was floating in a nearby pond.
Not that impressed? OK…how about this then?
In yet another display of futility from the tee box, I somehow misshit a drive with such force that it caused the actual club head to be disconnected from the shaft, send it flying forward, ultimately going further than the ball itself. Starting to get the picture?
Oh, and lastly, remind me to tell you all about a pair of golf shoes I wore once. Let’s just say they didn’t hold up all that well. (Sorry, Jim. Why should we be the only ones to enjoy that moment. Our man, Ed Norton, has kept our secret long
enough, I think!)
So, in case you’re not sold yet, let’s just say if you’re looking for a fourth to round out your weekend game, I’m probably not your guy. (-:
The thing is, though, I guess I have to accept the fact that I won’t be able to run and swim and do other physically taxing activities forever. So, trying to improve my golf game has become a top priority.
Who knows, maybe I’ll even start scoring better than an 8 on some of the longer holes. (Yep, my fellow hacks know all too well that an 8 is often known as a “snowman” in the golf lexicon.)
Practice makes perfect, friends.
Here’s to hitting ’em long and straight.
When we make up tomorrow, we’ll just be one week shy of the target.
Sleep well, gang.
