Remembering 21

Hi, all.

Welcome to the three-week mark!

When it comes to our remaining time together, if it’s cool with you guys, let’s think tortoise and the hare. Hey, it could work, right?

For today, let’s talk 21. Yeah, how about the top five moments of your 21st birthday? (That is for those of you who actually
can remember that many – if any – of them!)

Let’s stick with our usual M.O. ala D. Letterman:

5. On the eve of my 21st birthday, I was working at a summer camp as a counselor. Between the time I left that evening to go out and when I returned late that night, my buddies took all my bedding (including the mattress) and hid it. So, I spent my last night as a 20-year-old sleeping on the floor of the cabin.

4. The day before, my mother sent me a care package that was intercepted by my younger brother, who also worked there. The package included food and clothes, and my brother gave the clothes to a few random campers, all of whom were wearing my various birthday present(s) when I walked into the dining hall.

3. At that same meal, some of my loose-cannon buddies convinced two New York State troopers to show up at the camp office, claiming they had a warrant for my arrest.

2. My brother arranged for someone to call the camp office, indicating that I’d won a $500 dollar shopping spree – at Victoria Secret.

1.  On the evening of my birthday, while engaged in an intense game of Thumper (a drinking game based on mimicry skills, the object of which is to make fewer mistakes than your opponents), something occurred that hadn’t happened to me ever before and hasn’t happened since: Two different women fought over me.

The girl I was dating at the time left to go to the bathroom. When she returned, a girl I had dated earlier that summer showed up at the Thumper table. After some words were exchanged, something resembling a cat fight ensued. As above, that was hardly a regular occurrence for me. Yep, that was my one and only moment as some incarnation of Flavor Flav.

If you’re willing to share similar remembrances of your 21st birthday or any other marquis birthday, please send to me at: JLJFish56@gmail.com. With your permission, I’ll post it later in the countdown, changing the names to protect the guilty of course

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
