Hey, guys!
Welcome to Day 8.
Now if you’re a fossil like yours truly, you may well remember 8-track tape players. Truth be told, the height of the device’s popularity was probably sometime in the late 1970s, but the first model was released all the way back in 1965.
To call the technology used in this once-state-of-the-art device dated would be like calling Humphrey Bogart a rising star! Yeah, plenty has changed in our world over the years, and music is certainly no exception.
What hasn’t changed, though, is that there are still plenty of songs out there that remind us of where we were when we first heard them. And, of course, we’re also reminded of people, loved ones, acquaintances and even strangers when we hear certain song titles and lyrics.
I’m sure each of us has a favorite. In fact, I’ll bet a lot of us have a ton of them.
So, let’s talk about some songs that mention our spotlight star. (Yeah, just think figure 4 and/or double 8.)
And you thought we were ‘gonna talk about the history of 8-track players, huh? Nah, I think they’ve gone the way of the Dodo bird and VCRs!
That said, here are some thoughts on songs that put our friend, 8, right in the middle of the action.
1. “Eight Days A Week” (The Beatles, 1964)
2. “I’m Henry VIII, I am” (Herman’s Hermits, 1965)
3. “Eight Miles High” (The Bryds, 1966)
4. “Cool Jerk” (The Capitols, 1966)
5. “Figure Eight” (Bob Dorough, 1973)
6. “867-5309/Jenny” (Tommy Tutone, 1981)
7. “Lane’s Theme” (From Eight Seconds, The Lane Frost Story, Bill Conti, 1994)
8. “8 Mile” (Eminem, 2002)
So, that’s just a small sample.
But hey, if you guys are into this, feel free to post some other titles on Facebook, Linkedin, email or text ‘em to me. Whatever works!
Lucky 7 tomorrow, gang. Just one full week left.
